Job Title: EHS Specialist (Multi-Site)Department: Production & Quality Departments
Reports to: Director of Manufacturing

Job Summary:

This position is classified as Regular, Full-time, Exempt. Typical days and hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work.

The EHS Specialist is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and improving environmental, health, and safety programs across two designated businesses in Irwindale and Santa Fe Springs. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices to promote a safe and environmentally responsible workplace. The EHS Specialist will spend approximately 60% of their time in Irwindale and 40% in Santa Fe Springs, based on operational needs.

Principal Responsibilities (Accountabilities):

  • Develop, implement, and monitor EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits at both locations to identify and mitigate safety hazards and environmental risks.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Provide EHS training and education to employees to enhance safety awareness and compliance.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to develop and drive a proactive safety culture.
  • Maintain required EHS documentation, records, and reports in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Oversee hazardous waste management, spill response, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, auditors, and emergency response teams as needed.
  • Assist in the development and execution of emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Develop and update new Injury & Illness Prevention Plan.
  • Evaluate and prioritize equipment and machinery for development of machine-specific LOTO procedures.
  • Conduct Cal OSHA 101 Training.
  • Organize and lead Monthly Executive Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Conduct Monthly/Quarterly Supervisor and Lead Training.
  • Provide Monthly Training on Rotating Topics.
  • Perform Site Safety Compliance Inspections (Monthly).
  • Offer CalOSHA Defense Services.
  • Conduct Certified Forklift Operator Training.

Specific Duties and Essential Functions:

  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor workplace conditions and coordinate necessary improvements to reduce injuries and environmental impact.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety measures.
  • Develop and present safety training programs, including new hire orientations, toolbox talks, and refresher courses.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and near-misses, providing reports and recommendations for prevention.
  • Support ergonomic assessments and workplace wellness initiatives.
  • Work closely with site supervisors and employees to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Coordinate EHS committee meetings and drive engagement in safety initiatives.

Required Education, Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state/local environmental and safety regulations.
  • Certification such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, or CIH is preferred but not required.
  • Experience conducting safety training and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.

Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the facility for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including outdoor and industrial settings.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including mask, ear plugs, hard hat, and safety glasses.

About This Role

iRhythm is currently seeking an experienced and motivated  Manager, EHS&S in our Orange County, CA (Cypress, CA) Manufacturing facility.  The mission of this role is to ensure a positive and safe workplace experience every day. This means striking a fine balance between the optimal and the exceptional with Safety and in the way our workspace is organized and used.  As an individual contributor, you will partner closely with our Compliance, Quality, and Facilities teams, overcoming any “behind the scenes” challenges and ensuring a seamless process for our employees and visitors.  Although a majority of this role will be EHS&S focused, some Facilities Management responsibilities will be required.  Our work environment is fast-paced, with a collaborative atmosphere. Most of all, we are passionate about delivering innovations that improve the quality of health care and the patient experience.

Specific job responsibilities:

EHS&S Management

  • Lead and develop a robust EHS&S strategy to improve safety performance, reduce accident/injury/illness incident rates and control workers’ compensation costs
  • Partner with Director of Global Workplace Solutions to develop and report EHS&S performance metrics to facilitate continuous, ongoing improvement of EHS&S efforts and results
  • Develop strong working relationships with Quality, Compliance, and other key Managers to ensure cooperation & support with EHS&S matters
  • Create performance metrics and perform the analysis to drive EHS&S strategy and practical process improvement.
  • Conduct routine, scheduled facility inspections and audits to monitor and detect potential safety, health, and environmental hazards. Ensure PPE compliance among employees recommend corrective action or preventative measures where indicated and appropriate. Process reports, documents findings and actions taken.
  • Perform root cause analysis of all EHS incidents and assist in case management of reported injuries.
  • Ensure the company remains compliant with all OSHA and other safety related regulations as well as insurance carrier requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and conducts regular safety and training meetings
  • Developing and leading emergency response procedures to ensure employees are prepared to respond effectively.
  • Overseeing EHS requirements for contractors and vendors
  • Manage the EHS budget and identify cost-effective solutions
  • Understanding the requirements for reporting incidents to various agencies

Facilities Management

  • Serving as liaison to senior management and regulatory agencies, (i.e. OSHA) on facility matters
  • Champion day-to-day building operations to ensure service reliability and work environment standards are achieved, including participating in buildouts, relocations, decommissioning, furniture solutions, and maintenance activities
  • Ensure that our office environments are comfortable, effective, and productive as possible, meeting the needs of our internal customers and employees.
  • Maintain effective relationships with vendors to ensure that quality pricing and work is completed on time and budget.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal requirements, building rules and applicable ordinances
  • Support Workplace & Facilities Team on projects and initiatives

About you:

You are an experienced EHS&S Management professional with a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in EHS&S project management, construction and building operations. Our ideal candidate will leverage their critical thinking and influencing skills to plan and execute projects meaningfully, all while ensuring the safety and health of our associates. You must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-moving, and ambiguous environment while being an effective communicator and influence cross-functional teams. Our ideal candidate will be “nimble” taking on EHS&S responsibilities during our exponential growth.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability OR equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional – CSP and or OSHA Certifications highly desired.
  • Ability to oversee and implement strong internal processes that drive effectiveness across organization.
  • Ability to lead and manage key stakeholder relationships
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and present financial and local/national government & environmental recommendations and mandates at an executive level.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, and a proven ability to drive complex projects with aggressive schedules with minimal oversight
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations and compliance concerning the workplace
  • EHS&S experience within similar manufacturing environment
  • Flexibility to respond and react to facility emergencies on a 24/7 basis, along with having flexible with work hours to support all operations and shifts.
  • Open to learning and taking on Facility Management duties, as needed/required.
  • Ability to travel 20%
