When: April 17, 2019 l 7:00am to 9:00am

Where: American Red Cross – 601 N Golden Cir Dr, Santa Ana, CA 92705

Speaker: Aileen Yankowski – MPH, CIH

In this presentation and discussion you will learn about key SMS Program requirements and how to bring them into your Company’s safety culture. A SMS program is required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the US and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for aircraft service providers. SMS provides a framework and formal process to assist companies with establishing a culture of trust, performing effective accident investigations as well as improving safety performance. However, the major challenge is to ensure you have an effective program that engages all levels of employees and management. With Aileen’s experience with major aerospace companies where she has developed and implemented SMS programs, she will be sharing her approach and how to apply this process to any company. She will present ideas on how to start the process at your company and discuss tools you can use to ensure engagement. Changing a culture of an existing company is one of the most difficult challenges we face as Safety leaders, however, once achieved the rewards will be worth it.

Some key take always will include:

  1. Determine your current site culture
  2. Develop an approach to determine your future program
  3. Methods and tools you can use for your program
  4. Metrics to determine success and communicate with your management team
  5. Specific discussions on conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis to effect change.
