Government Affairs

The Orange County Chapter is involved in tracking legislation that may affect safety and health professionals in the State of California. OCASSP is represented on the California Governmental Affairs Council, which is a concerted effort by representatives from California ASSP Chapters to monitor relevant safety-related legislation and communicate important information to their Chapter members. The Orange County Chapter is dedicated to supporting and fostering the professional development of emerging safety professionals as well as recognizing those who have already established themselves as renowned safety professionals. We strive to accomplish these intentions though our Awards & Honors Programs.

Below are descriptions of our programs as well as instructions, guidelines, and forms for application for each award or scholarship.

Scholarship and Award Programs

The Orange County Chapter has three programs for providing financial support to individuals seeking an education or certification in the broad field of safety and health.

Honors Programs

We have established two programs for recognizing excellence in the safety profession: the Safety Professional of the Year and the Orange County Safety Hall of Fame.

Safety Professional of the Year

The purpose of the Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) Award is to pay tribute to the outstanding accomplishments of Society professionals engaged in the broad field of occupational safety and health. One SPY is selected to represent the Orange County Chapter each year.

Recognizing Member Milestone

The Orange County Chapter takes pride in acknowledging and celebrating our members’ recent milestones, be it obtaining new certifications or achieving other significant accomplishments. These might include publishing research, pioneering safety initiatives, or leading impactful community projects. We are committed to recognizing and applauding the diverse avenues of excellence and professional growth our members venture into.
